Community Levels

Actively participating on Slack and the [[Forum] is crucial for your career in the Dutch Waze community. The number of edits listed below refers to the automatic promotion system. In the Netherlands, it takes a long time to reach these numbers, which is why high-quality, active editors often receive promotions earlier.

For aspiring editors, it's important to ask questions here, while more experienced editors are ready to answer, explain, and assist you.

Each subsequent level

  • comes with additional responsibilities (participating in the Waze community)
  • comes with additional capabilities (e.g., access to specific forums and Slack channels).
  • is inextricably linked to more map editing expertise
  • comes with a larger area to edit
  • comes with authorization to work with additional road types

Promotion can be requested via DM to kdevries.

Novice editor (level 1)

Every editor starts at level 1. At this level, you can edit approximately 60 to 90 percent of the roads in your neighborhood: local streets, and you can add and edit virtually all points of interest. The very first place edits still need to be confirmed by a more experienced editor. Furthermore, the following applies:

  • Only self created segments can be discarded.
  • Only self created Update request can be closed.
  • Linking an external provider to a Place is not possible.
  • There is a limit to the number of street names that can be changed.
  • house numbering can be forced to a limited extent.

Read the Quick Start Guide first.
See also the Beginners Summary.

Apprentice editor (level 2)

You will automatically be awarded Level 2 upon reaching 3000 edits. Before reaching this number, you can also apply for Level 2 if you can answer the following questions affirmatively:

  • Have you made a reasonable number of map edits?
  • Are you actively participating in the Dutch Waze community?
  • Do you regularly post messages in our Slack channels, for example, #vraagbaak.
  • Do you indicate that you are eager to learn?
  • Are you familiar with our Wiki?
  • And especially: Have you carefully reviewed the Quick start guide?

What is extra (compared to Level 1):

  • The Editable area is doubled from 1 mile to 2 miles around your trips from approximately the last three months.
  • Working with Primary Streets in the Waze Map Editor.
  • Handling Update requests.
  • Unlimited deletion of custom segments. Deletion of segments created by others is limited to a maximum of 10, and deleted custom segments are included.
  • Forcing House numbers.
  • Entering Major Traffic Events (MTEs).

What is expected of you:

  • Reading the Advanced Guide.
  • If you find this helpful, you will be assigned a private mentor (L3+).
